Mothers, If you had the choice to go to work or be a stay at home mom what would you choose?
sapphire asked:
I love my kids and all but I need a break from them sometimes and somewhat of a social life, but every job I get seems to screw me over and treat me like a door matt, what would you do, Stay home and gain weight, but have the joy of being with your children, Or look for a new job and hope they appreciate you?

I’m a stay-at-home, and I love it, but then I have a wonderful husband and a reliable babysitter when I need a break.

“Stay home and gain weight, but have the joy of being with your children”
What the fling darn are you talking about?!! I only gain weight while pregnant. I’m a SAHM who’s losing the weight from the third and last pregnancy.
Staying at home doesn’t make you fat, your food intake and activity level make you fat. What a ridiculous statement.
I know working mothers who gain weight too…
You sound very negative about both choices. I’m very glad not to have your bad outlook on life.

I made the choice to stay at home with my first then again with my second and will be home for the first year with this one that I am due to have around October 16th. I love being a SAHM. I do babysit to make some extra money and I still get a “break” if I need one because my mom is wonderful and will take my boys when i need her to with no problems, she is like a second mom to them. I have thought about a part-time job for the needed money but decided against it when my boys begged me not to. My oldest hits kindergarten next year and my younger son will be in preschool for a 3 hrs a day so I was going to do parttime but now I will be waiting until this baby is atleast a year old to get something out of the house so babysitting is what I will continue to do for awhile just so I can be near my little ones. BTW I didn’t gain anymore weight by staying home, if anything I lost weight because I was less stressed and could eat right and get in a little workout while the munchkins were sleeping.

jobs come and go, they’re your children forever, and just because you stay home does not mean you’ll get fat, it’s a personal choice, if you want or have to work, do it..

i choose to stay at home and well it has its days and sometimes i really want to go to work but in the end i think i made the best choice for my family. i think i would rather be a stay at home mom than have someone else raise my children with their belief and values. that is one of the big reasons i chose to stay at home. i expect certain behaviors and values and want my children to be raised the way i would like them to be not what someone else would do. so i guess really you have to ask your self what is important to you and for your children? everyone is different and thats ok if you choose either one just let it be the one that is right for you.

I’m a stay – at – home mom by choice. I want my son to be raised by his parents, not strangers in a daycare center. Let me say, however, that I’m not putting down anyone who chooses to work outside the home, or who has no other choice.
That said, I get plenty of breaks. I still have a social life, hobbies, and interests other than being a mom. I’ll resume my career when my son starts school full – time, but until then, there’s nothing more meaningful to me than being a full – time mom.

I would pick part time work for Mom. I, too, need some time away from the kids to enjoy them to the fullest. Some adult conversation and time away makes me a better more patient Mom.
Also the cost of child care is way less when you work fewer hours.

I would stay home. I love staying home with my girls and my niece! And I am not staying home getting fat, I keep busy! Also as for a social life- play dates aren’t just for the kids. We are always doing stuff and out and about, with friends and their moms.

I want to stay at home for the baby years but I want a career too. Being almost 5 mo. preg now I feel really torn about the decision.

I am a stay at home mom and I love it! I would not change it for the world. I do understand how it gets frustrating sometimes though and lonely! You need adult time.
When I got to that point I started a home based business through Purse Party! I love purses and jewelry so this was right up my alley! Most of all what I love is being able to get out and meet new people and have social time with other women! We all need a little adult time in our life…this way I make some extra money while I do it!
If you think you might be interested in something like this let me know! I hope this helps!
