Yes, dogs can stay home alone for 5 hours. Lots of people who work have dogs.
If he gets into mischief, crate train him.

Yes, you can leave your dog at home for five hours. Do you know what the dog would do at home?
I think it would be safer to ask someone you know very well to watch the dog for you.

Your pooch should be okay. I know of a big Lab that stays home all day while his humans are at work or school. That dog lounges around in the family room watching All My Children and other daytime dramas!
Leave the radio or television on to keep him company.
My dog hangs out in our fenced 3/4 acre yard when I have to be gone all day. He has a big deck he can hide out under when he wants to sleep. When I’m gone for short trips he prefers to stay in his “room”. In fact when he sees me pick up my car keys, he heads directly to his “room”. He really doesn’t like to go outside or travel in the car!
My dog must think he’s a cat!

Sometimes these things just can’t be avoided, and people who work full time still have dogs who do well. Of course everyone would love to give their dogs 24hour attention but it’s just not always possible.
Firstly it’s important to choose a breed that is relatively independant and doesn’t mind being alone some of the time. Secondly when you aren’t home, make sure you leave plenty of water, and toys and games to keep it occupied and to stop it from getting bored and mischievious.
Thirdly when you are home, make sure you give it lots of attention and exercise so it doesn’t end up being just another backyard dog left to its own devices.

Of course its ok – millions of dogs around the world get left on their own for at least 9 hours a day while their owners go to work. Most dogs will sleep most of the time, waiting for their owners to come home. So long as he has water, is protected from the weather and is contained (can’t escape) then he or she will be fine.

Is the dog use to being alone? He/she should be just fine, if you think about it they are in the house prob. 7-8 hours at night sort of alone while we sleep. Just be sure to leave the dog enough water to drink and toys to play with. If your dog is allowed to run around the house, and not crate trained and thus stays in the crate while you are gone, just be sure not to leave important things out such as shoes or other things the dog can stand on hind legs and reach.

It is according if your dog is a puppy or a older dog.
If the dog is older then 5 hours is ok . It shouldn’t have any accidents while you are gone. Just make sure as soon as you get home the dog will have to go outside. Make sure the dog is in a safe area. Has toys to play with. Maybe keep the TV on while you are gone.
If your dog is still a puppy then the dog will have accidents. You might want put it in one room or a kennel with a puppy pad in the kennel. Make sure though the kennel is big enough for a soft bed and a place for the puppy pad. Dogs do not like to lay close to where they do their business.
Puppies bladders are small and they can not go 5 hours without having a accident. It is not the puppy’s fault. After the puppy becomes older 5 hours will not be a problem. But puppies do like to chew on anything and everything. They like to play with plastic bags which are bad. Just try to think of your puppy as a baby. What could a baby get into?? People have said to get down with the level of your dog to see what your dog can see. So that way what your dog sees you can see too. I have done this and it really has helped me to find thing I would not of other wise. They can chew on electrical cords and can get seriously hurt. They will swallow anything buttons, coins, anything!!!
You sound like a very responsible dog owner. Just give your dog lots of attention and love when you return home.
Good Luck

Yeah, but do you trust your dog?
Your dog can easily stay hoe for 5 hours but it depends on how trained your dog is wether or not he/she will releave use the bathroom in your house. Or chew on stuff

Yes it is fine to leave a Shih-Tzu alone for 5 hours. We leave ours alone for 8 hours.
Cation don’t for get to take her/he out before (before you leave) and after you get back.
