About to be a new mommy, anyone recomend Avon for extra income?

extra income
AlwaysAlover asked:

I’m due with my first baby on the 24th, I want to be a stay at home mom, but I also want to help out my husband with the finances. I’ve been looking into Avon and think it would be a great way to earn extra income, but I’m scared I’ll be in over my head with a newborn and my own business. Has anyone else done this? Did it work? I would love any answers and/or details on Avon.

I’ve never sold it but I have a few friends who’ve tried it. It’s difficult to make good money — you need a wide range of customers that make frequent purchases. It’s certainly not impossible to pull in a decent income, but it’s as much luck as anything else.

I tried this too because i wanted to earn some extra money, but it didnt work. Instead of me making money i was spending money. Since i was the sales lady, it wanted everything in that avon book and all of my earnings were gone ( i even owed money) If you really like avon i would suggest not selling it because it just makes you want to buy more. You will get a good discount on it though. It’s really your choice. You will be getting 40% of your sales. It’s actually pretty easy to sell because alot of people buy avon. Good Luck, Your choice.

I don’t think you would get in over your head at all… and actually you can start selling Avon for just 10 dollars (if I remember correctly) Some of the other similar companies require you to invest much more money upfront, before even knowing if it is right for you.

It’s worth a shot, it’s a small investment and you get to decide how much time you want to put into it, there are no set time requirements. Most of your time would be finding customers, it’s not easy, especially when they can go online to Avon.com and buy whenever they want. However, you can offer them special deals they can’t get from anyone else (but that would eat into your profit somewhat)

If you really want to make money it will take quite a bit of work from you, again finding enough customers is hard. But you get to decide how much time, and when, there is no real way to get in over your head. It’s just about how much you want to put into it.

You’ll have a sponser, if you are lucky, she can give you lots of good advice, and she will probably have some products you can try out yourself to get familiar with Avon products, if you aren’t already. That would be a good first step. Otherwise you could purchase some yourself (you get like 50% off your first couple orders, after that the discount, and your profit, depends on the size of the order) but that means investing some more money, it just depends how much you want to start out with. It’s nice to have some products to show to customers, but really, how many customers will you have in the beginning.

Some sponsers just sign you up and thats it, others will work with you because they want you to do well (then they do better too) Usually there are enough reps in one area that you can actually talk to a few and decide who you want to sign up under.

Personally thats what I would do, try to find a sponser that seems to be active herself and can give you some good advice. If she has some extra products you can try out or show to customers, even better! (you can usually build up a pretty good stock from Avon’s freebie offers and such over time)
The catalogs and stuff cost you money, so you may not want to go throwing them around everywhere in the beginning and just start with friends and family, word of mouth. Or you may want to just put catalogs everywhere, it’s really up to you how you want to try to get orders.

Most of all, just resist the urge to buy stuff for yourself! lol. It’s hard to make any real money selling Avon, most people do it enough to buy stuff they want or maybe a little more. There are some people though that are very serious, and successful with it. For a 10 dollar investment, it’s worth trying out.
