Will it raise your credit score if you pay your cell phone bill by using a bank card that says visa on it?

I usually only use this as a debit card. If I keep paying by phone and use the pay by credit option, does it improve my credit score any? will I get more or less points on my credit score points than if I pay by debit or go into the store itself and pay cash?

No, the card is a debit card regardless of which option you use - the credit vs. debit option is only recognized by the person you are buying from/paying - the bank that holds your card will always regard it as a debit card, which does not get reported to the credit bureaus. The only way you would get credit for paying is to actually use a real credit card, and then when you get the bill, pay it off.

No. No one is extending you credit.

Your cell phone bill is not credit, so it doesn’t make a difference in your score, unless you don’t pay and they report the default.

A debit card is not credit no matter how the payment is processed. The credit / debit option is a convenience for merchants, they are still debit transactions when they get to the bank.

Just charging alone will not do anything for your credit score. Credit scores are based on if you pay on time and for how long. So, if you had an actual credit card, and used it properly, you would eventually get a favorable score.

your cell phone company does not report to the CRA’s unless you default. Paying online with your debit card help or hinder your score in any way.

Nope, the method of payment is irrelevant. The phone company is only interested in your paying your bill in full and on time. That’s also what will matter for your credit reating. You can pay in cash, in person, debit, cheque, credit card. No one cares as long as you pay.

You can’t build credit if the money you are borrowing is coming out of your own money. To build credit you need to actually borrow money from someone.

nope. we have had a contract with alltel for 5+ years, it never shows up on our credit reports. although if you stop paying it will.

sucks you pay all these bills monthly and get no credit for them.

trisha t, I recommend you visit a local credit restoration company. They should offer you advice to help improve your credit.
