Well donating used cell phones can get you tax write offs. As to recycling your battery, I dont know but I hope not. Disposing of your battery properly is your responsibility, those who take batteries (or other hazardous common use items such as Energy saving bulbs) for free do so through a program that gives them incentives, but if not for those programs, they would be incurring cost to take your waste and recycle it as their own. (these incentives aren’t necessarily monitary, sometimes they are done as a sort of partnership between suppliers and distributors. )
